Trauma care

Many medical services, from emergency rooms to the surgical units, to intensive care and medicine units, are needed by those who have experienced a traumatic injury or illness caused by an external force. Our medical teams need the best technology and resources to perform often life-saving trauma care for these patients. As many as 25 health care professionals can be needed to provide one patient the care they need.

In 2017, new technology and equipment were acquired to enhance trauma care. Essential items included portable ultrasound machines, IV fluid warmers and vital signs monitors for the emergency department. Additionally, new anesthesia equipment, intubation monitors, upgraded surgical technology hubs and cranial stabilization clamps—each vital for delivering safe surgical procedures – were added. The intensive care unit was equipped with Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) ventilators, patient monitors and a central monitoring system to further improve patient care.

The Foundation also invested in stretchers (including one designed for the helipad at Regina General Hospital), beds (including bariatric beds for heavier patients), and Staxi wheelchairs, which are utilized by porters to transport patients throughout the hospital.  Additionally, high-capacity cart washers and disinfectors were acquired. All of these improvements were made possible by our generous donors.
